I have used Thunderbird and its diary for years, and make extensive use of reminders in the diary (my memory is not what it once was!). Latterly, when deleting or postponing a reminder, Thunderbird goes into "not responding" mode for many seconds or even some minutes.

I have Thunderbird linked to both my gmail and my protonmail email accounts. If I look at Task Manager when Thunderbird goes unresponsive it seems to be the connection with protonmail that is the problem - see the attached screenshot.

Help, please

I have a fresh install of Firefox. (139.0), but I never not had this problem. I open up the application, open fb.com not scroll a bit not do anything I just wait for the page to load. I run top in terminal and plugin-container goes up to high heavens ~100% CPU. My battery gets hot, and drains infinitely faster than when not using Facebook with Firefox. I have a new M3 with 8gb ram. Lightning fast otherwise. Same problem with my older M1. (irrelevant but Chrome is burning up the CPU for the same reason) My best guess is that the end-to-end encryption is using too much power or whatever Facebook is doing to tap my every blink. Which is fine. I don't do anything excessively bad. The question is here if why can't I just give a certain percentage to the process? I accept the performance to drop a little but having a 120 degree laptop on my thighs at all times and having to charge it daily is not healthy and annoying. About the plugins/extensions I use here is the list of them: none. I have no extensions, plugins, themes, nothing. Brand new fresh install. I'm sure it's reproducible with any Facebook account with end-to-end encryption chat.

I set up a CardDAV addressbook link to my iCloud addressbook. Everything is fine, and syncing works great. After ~2 days, it stops working and I have to generate a new app-specific password, delete my addressbook, and re-establish a new link with the new app-specific password. I tried to turn on CardDAV login, but nothing it written to the logs.

Has anyone run into this problem and how do I go about troubleshooting it?

Hello All,

I seem to have a problem with Firefox freezing. I moved back again to Firefox to maintain the adblockers that Chrome so graciously crippled.

Now, with that out of the way, I noticed that sites that have autoplaying MPEG-4 files that basically act like good old-fashioned gifs tend to cause the firefox to freeze.

It is a strange freeze though - the whole browser becomes VISUALLY unresponsive, but if I click blindly, say to close the tab or if I scroll up or down it appears to work. How do I know? Well, if I drag the mouse to the bottom of the taskbar in Windows and bring up the thumbnail... It unfreezes the browser - showing the changes I made blindly, at least until it freezes again when the MPEG-4 files start playing again. The freezes are not temporary either - I need to unfreeze through this thumbnail method I described above - otherwise it stays frozen.

The issue is not consistent either. Sometimes it goes through the MPEG-4 files perfectly fine, but usually scrolling through any thread containing embedded MPEG-4 videos, like reaction clips and the like, is literally impossible due to the rate of freezes.

Furthermore - this issue does not seem to occur when MPEG-4 videos are embedded on site itself, but freezes occur when the files appear in comments on imageboards and such.

I have narrowed down the culprit - the issues ceases when I disable the hardware acceleration, but I do not find it to be an acceptable solution in a long term - because disabling it causes various videos to play at noticeably lower and unpleasant framerates.

I'm fairly convinced it is NOT a hardware or software issue on my end - it is a brand new and powerful PC with a fresh install of Windows 11 and all the drivers are up to date, AMD GPU. Unless the issue is with some obscure codec, perhaps. However, the issue does not persist on any other browser I used.

A few of my recently uploaded videos will not load in Google Photos in Firefox on my PC. I get a "Your video will be ready soon" message and endlessly rotating loading circle. They are mp4 files, but other mp4 videos taken just seconds apart load and play normally. I've tried clearing my cache and deleting and re-uploading the videos but it doesn't help. The problem persists when I load Firefox in Troubleshooting mode. The same files that won't play in Firefox load and play normally in Google Photos in Chrome on my PC and also on my android phone.

Merci

Over the last month or two, my PC has frozen, not crashed, just frozen, while I was watching youtube. I have left it for a few hours, but it does not unfreeze. I am forced to hard restart the PC. When I restart Firefox, the first thing it does is update. It only happens when I have a Youtube video running, Youtube can be open in a tab but not running a video with no issue. Is it possible that the update request is locking up my PC? Is it being caused by Youtube? Any suggestions on how to stop it happening short of changing browsers? No error messages. No crash report. Nothing in the reports file to point me in the right direction.

Here is one occurrence that describes my problem ...

I read the newspapers online; the New York Times, Washington Post and San Francisco Chronicle among them. When the site loads the first few screens are no problems, all of the graphics/pictures show normally. The problem happens as I scroll down. When I scroll, the graphics/pictures don't show. I have to do a reload to get them displayed. And this happens over and over as I scroll down. Once I get to the bottom and have done a number of reloads everything is now displayed properly. If I go up to the top and work my way down again, all of the graphics and pictures display properly.

This does not happen with either of the other browsers that I occasionally use (Norton, DuckDuck). But I very much prefer Firefox and would like to fix this.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I can't close TB. It is frozen in the midst of trying to compact files. This is the error message:

"Compact folders (Not responding) Thunderbird needs to do regular file maintenance to improve the performance of your mail folders. This will recover 685 MB of disk space without changing your messages. To let Thunderbird do this automatically in the future without asking, check the box below before choosing ‘Compact now’."

My husband and I had the same problem with our laptops not loading emails, saying it doesn't have sufficient file space. I fixed his by deleting a lot of files and then compacting the remainder. BUT - this isn't working for mine. In the process of trying to compact files, it froze and I can't figure out a way to close it and try again.

Any help appreciated! Thanks.
